Another important development as our community continues to grow is our inclusion in the planning of trails
in the Wenatchee River Upper Valley Region. The City of Leavenworth has initiated the organization of a Regional Trails
Steering Committee made up of interested community leaders and recreational and conservation organizations. Steve Keene, Peshastin Community Council Chairman, is a member of the committee.

Some of the goals of the trail plan are to enhance existing trails with new connecting trails, to increase commuting options,
and to connect more neighborhoods, residents, and visitors with non-motorized travel and recreation options. The planning
effort is made possible by a $50,000 state grant, which has enabled the committee to hire an independent consulting firm,
Berger/Abam, who is studying the current trails, assessing the area needs and will present three options for possible development. You
can read more about the project on the City of Leavenworth web site, and click here if you'd like to fill out a questionnaire to help the committee consider some of your ideas. There will also be a public meeting to discuss the plans on Wednesday,
January 14, 2009, 7:00pm at the Chelan County Fire District #3 Conference Hall, 228 Chumstick Highway. Please plan to attend.
